About The Artist:

Ocean artist Petra Meikle de Vlas draws inspiration from the waters surrounding her coastal studio, just 15 nautical miles from the Great Barrier Reef. Through her unconventional mixed-media techniques, she transforms paint and materials into intricate reef and ocean formations, capturing the raw beauty of nature.

Petra’s creative process is a dynamic interplay of tools and elements: brushes, air guns, spray bottles, gravity, and even a blowtorch mimic the forces of rain, tide, and sun. Layer by layer, she sculpts her paintings, blending materials and harnessing the chemistry of pigments to create mesmerizing, organic compositions.

Her work has garnered significant recognition, including winning the Art Lovers Australia People’s Choice Award 2020 and being featured in notable exhibitions like the Swiss Art Expo 2023, Miami Art Expo 2024, Time Square 2024.  Petra’s art has also graced prominent TV shows, including The Block, House Rules, and Love It or List It, as well as top publications such as Home Beautiful, Grand Designs, and Ocean Mag.
